General Session 1: CRAIG HAZEN
Christianity in a World of Religions
In this fast-paced and humorous presentation, Professor Hazen addresses the question of “how does Christianity stack up against the other great world religions?” Based on his book “Five Sacred Crossings,” Hazen delivers five unique features of Christianity that set it dramatically apart from the other major religious traditions.
9:50 am – 10:50 am
Breakout Sessions #1
- Rani Espanioly: Fight the Fear: Learning to Love Our Muslim Neighbors (Main Sanctuary)
Islam is one of the fastest growing world religions, with over 3 million Muslims in America alone. Radical Islam dominates much of our national news with acts of violence and calls for destruction. What are Christians to do in the face of such a blatant threat? Are we willing to love ALL Muslims as Jesus does? How do we fight the fear?
- Carlos Francis: Urban Apologetics: Responding to Black Identity Cults (Room 206 Upstairs)
This session will help inform our churches and about black identity cults that are trying to infiltrate our communities. These cults like any other cults teach false doctrine and try to leverage the racial tension and challenges that we have in our country to persuade Black people that it is illogical to serve “White Jesus.” This session will reveal that the love of Christ does not have boundaries, and any ethnicity of people should not be found in color but Christ.
11:05- 12:05 pm
General Session 2: J WARNER WALLACE
Person of Interest: Why Jesus Still Matters in a World that Rejects the Bible
Wallace was skeptical of the Bible, but he’d investigated several “no-body, missing person” cases in which there was no crime scene, no physical evidence, and no victim’s body. Could the historical life and actions of Jesus be investigated in the same way? In Person of Interest, Wallace describes his own personal investigative journey from atheism to Christianity, as he carefully sifts through the evidence from history alone without relying on the New Testament manuscripts. Creative, compelling, and fully illustrated, Person of Interest will strengthen the faith of believers, while engaging those who are skeptical and distrusting of the New Testament.
12:05 pm – 1:25 pm —- LUNCH BREAK
1:30 pm- 2:30 pm
General Session 3: JP MORELAND
The Reality of Miracles in a Radically Skeptical Age
The purpose of this lecture is to encourage people to trust God and hunger for His presence more by learning about the power of His Kingdom and Spirit. We will learn what a miracle is, how to tell the difference between a miracle and a coincidence, examine and illustrate 5 different kinds of miracles, and reflect on why God so often does not intervene when we want Him to.
2:45 pm – 3:45 pm
Breakout Sessions #2
- Eric Hernandez: Does the Soul Exist? (Main Sanctuary)
With the interest and rise of neuroscience, many have come to believe that human beings are nothing more than a brain and body. Hence, the existence of the soul is now seen as an outdated, superstitious belief that science can show is false. But is this truly the case? In this session you will be presented with a case for the soul by looking at two main points: 1) that consciousness is not physical, and 2) that human beings are more than a brain and body.
